New to electronic books? Here's how it works.

Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and SONY all sell very good dedicated, handheld readers. You then buy a book on their electronic book store, and it appears on your reader through WiFi or 3G signal. That's it. Just click the book in the electronic store, wait about thirty seconds, and begin reading.

Amazon offers free Kindle apps for the PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, Android, and iTouch.

Barnes & Noble offers free Nook apps for PC, iPhone, iPad, Android, and iTouch.

These work the same way. Buy the book in the electronic store, it is sent to your computer or hand-held, and you start reading. Both the stand alone readers and the computers and handhelds can store thousands of books. Click below for links directly to Amazon and Barnes & Noble. (For example, if you had a reader, or reader app, and clicked the link for the Templar Concordat in the lower left of this screen, thirty seconds later you could start reading.)
